Journey of Understanding Itinerary

Please hold these times and events loosely as “life” does change and there may need to be adjustments.

Day 1 – Thursday, June 4 (Tel Aviv / Bethlehem)

Upon arrival in Tel Aviv, participants will be met and transferred to our hotel in Bethlehem. (Departure from the US will be Wednesday, June 3, from the UK, Thursday, June 4.) Dinner, welcome, and orientation will be at the hotel.

Day 2 – Friday, June 5 (Bethlehem)

This morning we have a visit to the Tent of Nations. The Nassars, a Christian Palestinian family, have dedicated their property to God as a meeting place for reconciliation (www.tentofnations.org). The afternoon will be free for you to participate in the pre-conference activities. Tonight will be the first session of Christ at the Checkpoint Conference.

Days 2-6 – Friday night through Tuesday noon, June 5 – 9 (Bethlehem)

We will attend the sessions of the Christ at the Checkpoint Conference. During the Conference there will be opportunities to visit the Checkpoint, walk along the Security Wall, and take field trips. These will be arranged through the Conference, independent from the Journey of Understanding.

Day 6 – Tuesday, June 9 (Jerusalem)

This afternoon we will process through the information we have heard, as well as hearing from some other organizations involved in reconciliation works.

 Day 7 – Wednesday, June 10 (Jerusalem)

Today will be our Tour of Old City Jerusalem (including Tower of David, Via Dolorosa, Holy Sepulcher, and the Western Wall). In the evening we will have dinner and meeting with a Jewish representative of the reconciliation group called MEP. She will be explaining their program, their perspectives, and their hopes for the future. 

Day 8 – Thursday, June 11 (Jerusalem)

In the morning we will visit Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem. In the afternoon we complete our Jerusalem tour (including the Mount of Olives and the Garden Tomb). In the evening we will have dinner and a meeting with representatives from Parents’ Circle Family Forum—a mixed Israeli and Palestinian group that represents parents who have lost family members in the conflict.  (www.theparentscircle.com)

Day 9 – Friday, June 12 (Galilee / Nazareth)

Today we drive to the Galilee by the sea route, visiting the ancient sea port of Caesarea. We will proceed on to Nazareth, and after checking into our guest house, we will visit Nazareth Open Village Museum (a re-creation of what the village of Nazareth might have looked like in Jesus’ day).

Day 10 – Saturday, June 13 (Galilee)

Today we visit the sites of Jesus’ ministry around the Sea of Galilee, including a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee. We will finish out the day with a speaker.

Day 11 – Sunday, June 14 (Galilee/Caesarea/Tel Aviv)

Today we enjoy a walking tour of Nazareth. We will arrive at the Tel Aviv airport for our return flights home.

Northville’s Interim Pastor, Dr. Christopher Dost, was recently interviewed by Nora Speakman on her podcast RE-Tell Your Story. In it, Dr. Dost speaks about his recent book Jesus’ Bible: A Concise History of the Hebrew Scriptures and its relevance for the Christian faith.



We invite young people grades 6-12 to join us for youth group every Wednesday night from 7:00pm to 8:45pm.


Join us for Bible study on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm! We are currently working through the Gospel of John.


Our interim pastor, Dr. Christopher Dost, has been serving at Northville Baptist Church since April 2019. Dr. Dost is also Associate Professor of Old Testament at Alliance Theological Seminary in New York City. He holds a B.A. in String Bass (Western Connecticut State University, 2000) and four graduate degrees in biblical and theological studies, including a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Its Interpretation from the Jewish Theological Seminary (New York City). He is currently working toward a B.A. in Arabic Language and Cultures. He is the author of Jesus’ Bible: A Concise History of the Hebrew Scriptures and The Sub-Loco Notes in the Former Prophets of Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, as well as a translator for The Targum Bible (Baylor University Press, forthcoming) and a participant in the preparation of Biblia Hebraica Quinta, a new critical edition of the Hebrew Bible (German Bible Society).


Karen comes to NBC from Guayaquil, Ecuador, where she previously worked as a dentist. She is nearing completion of a M.Div. degree at Alliance Theological Seminary in New York City and teaches Old Testament for Nyack College. Karen’s ministry at NBC includes oversight of the Christian education program and leading the youth group.
